Content Buckets | How To Get Organized With Video Content Creation

Agent Tips

This may or may not be a new term to you, but if it is new, it will change the way you create content.

“Content Buckets” aka “Content Categories” is essentially a filing system for content. This simple system has altered the way that I think about content and has seriously helped me get organized.

So, in basic terms, Content Buckets are categories of content that you film. These buckets should be labeled and very easy to understand e.g. seller advice, buyer tips, agent hacks, etc. With my buckets (and I will outline them below), I have structured a system of questions to ensure I am on the right track.

My 3 Rules of Engagement (ROE) for Content:

  1. What bucket does it fall into?
  2. Who is my audience?
  3. What is the value add or takeaways?

If I cannot clearly answer the questions below, then I do not pursue the idea. Period.

How to Identify Your Content Buckets:

Conduct an audit of your content. Take a look at your last 100 posts and analyze the following:

  1. Which ones had the most engagement (comments and shares, who cares about likes)
  2. Which ones did you actually ENJOY filming?
  3. Which ones can you see yourself filming on a consistent basis e.g. 1x/week.

My advice is to start with 3 Content Buckets that you know you can fill and alternate your content by your buckets e.g. Bucket #1, then Bucket #2, then Bucket #3, and repeat (this seems really obvious after writing this, but hey, maybe not…)

My Content Buckets:

My buckets have changed slightly over time, but I currently operate on a 5-bucket system (I know, I’m extra) that is strictly for Instagram, FB, & TikTok:

  1. RE101 - this content is for the consumer (buyer & seller) and I am offering simple Real Estate advice.
  2. Savvy Solutions - this content is for real estate agents and I am offering tips, tricks, and advice that I have learned over my 8-year (and counting) career.
  3. Skits - my favorite bucket! This is where I get to flex my creative muscles and make people laugh. Every skit has real estate undertones.
  4. Listing Videos - This is consumer content that is done as my value add for my clients (sellers). I try to make these videos interesting, different, and entertaining all while showing off the house (this one can be challenging at times)
  5. Local Expert - this is one of my newest additions and has proven to be one of the easiest to film (we already have a lot of the content) and has given me local street cred and created something that Jason Pantana calls “Vicinity Virality”.

Now, Go Execute

If this is all new to you, well that just fills me with joy because you learned something and I hope it changes the way you create! It has certainly been a game changer for me and has allowed me to remain extremely efficient with my content.

If you already knew this, well you’re just a know-it-all, aren't you?

Jk. Kind of…

Until the next blog,
